She kept her eyes tightly shut. Her head pounded, it felt like it was going to explode. She knew she was alive because the pain was so real and it surged through her body, getting to every part it could. She wouldn’t be in this much pain if she was dead. She groaned. She didn’t want to open her eyes, not yet. She knew she’d fallen and must of banged her head and she didn’t want to see her surroundings. She didn’t want to see anything. If she kept her eyes closed it wouldn’t be real, she could pretend she was somewhere else and block out the pain.
She lay there and willed herself to fall asleep or drift off just so she could escape reality. She knew she wasn’t even with it but she was with it enough to want to escape it. Her senses were weak and she could feel herself dehydrating. She knew she’d have to face reality sooner or later but for now she just wanted to be somewhere else. She started imagining she was on the beach where she’d first seem their camp, she was on holiday and her family were there with her and there was a big, 5 star hotel with lots of friendly people. She could hear them chatting gently, their conversations inaudible but soothing, she could feel the sun warming her and kissing her skin, she could hear the waves breaking gently and making her feel sleepy. She felt happy and calm and she opened up her senses wanting them to take her into her fantasy.
Suddenly something jolted inside her. She wasn’t in her fantasy she realised she could actually here people talking, she could feel the sun’s rays and she could hear waves. A rush of fear spread through her, how could she feel and hear these things when she was in the middle of the jungle? She forced her eyes open. She was lying flat on her back starring straight up at the sky. It took her a few minutes to get used to the bright light. She propped herself up and saw she was on the beach next to a tree line. Slowly she tilted her head to the right, she saw the sea about 10 metres from her. She looked to the left and just saw the trees. She panicked. How had she gotten from a ditch in the jungle to a beach? Somebody had brought her here she thought. She didn’t want to stay and find out who it was.
She stood up quickly and ran a few steps before the pain forced her down into the sand. She heard somebody shout and heard people running. She didn't look round. She forced herself back up and stumbled off towards the trees. She could hear somebody behind her getting closer. She gritted her teeth and fought the pain and kept on going but she felt somebody grab her back and somebody else grab her arms and pull her back. She screamed and then the pain in her head surged and it caused her to black out.
