Possible, and good point about him having no family to speak of.
My main problem with that however is the near certainty that should one of the O6 die, their celebrity status would mean that the media would cover it, and so there would at least be some paparzzi (etc) there to report the funeral..?
Although there is still the oddity in that Mr. Avellino knew Sayid's reputation but not
him..so..maybe that angle could help your theory?
