That's a good point, but I was under the impression that Walt wasn't in total control of his astral projecting (if that's what it was) and so intent wasn't there. Perhaps the key to 'forgiveness' is whether or not 'intent' is there - although that would seem to contradict Michael's guilt over killing Libby, since he clearing didn't intend to kill her. Although he did have murder in his heart, which is perhaps the overriding factor..?

However, Havey offer's up another viable option - that the Walt she saw was infact Smokie taking on the young mans guise. He seems to prefer 'becoming Walt' - possibly because the young guy is talented, or perhaps he now 'has' Walt's power (which begs the question as to whether Walt is now 'powerless', so to speak).

If Smokie did kill Shannon it also suggests that Smokie (or the island..or Ben ) had cast judgement on her, and wanted to punish her like it did with Eko. Interestingly it gave Eko a 'chance', whereas under this preimise Shannon would have been given no such opportunity. Perhaps suggesting that it saw more value, or "potential" in Eko than it did Light, Sticks..

Perhaps, if this premise is true, Smokie needs to play a balacing act - assisting and deleting 'players' as the game progresses. Not that i'm saying Lost is a game, but the variables and the fixed environment (i..e fate) certainly suggests a game-like ethos is at work.

But yeah, ultimately i think that Walt wasn't in control of his powers - he was warning Shan of impending danger (because she had Vincent, thus allowing 'her' to communicate with Walt?), but didn't really know how he was doing it, perhaps.

But the other Smokie option is also plausible, since we know Boone dreamt of her slaughter by the said Island gaurdian..and on this island, dreams come true..

Blame Boone!
