I just don't see why making sure they were aware of the facts would fail to suffice - I don't buy the idea that they'd be so cavalier as to ignore the danger (or that Karl would rape Alex, which is the other alternative - no way, frankly). And I don't think, hence 'Maybe I overreacted'. Certainly it didn't have the desired effect anyway - Karl and Alex seem (or did seem, till Karl apparently died) more in love than ever, and more adverse to Ben. So it wasn't really justified by result either.

Well yes a chat with
Karl may have done the trick but he may have tried that already. Perhaps he thought they would ignore his warning and take a
severe risk anyway? I would like to believe Karl became a massive thorn in
Ben's side after
several or a
dozen warnings. Karl strikes me as a nuisance.
I personally as
Alex's Father would not risk my
Daughter dying and would have sent Karl off to
Room 23 for "
conditioning" though I would not order him to be killed.
I would have to question the logic of Alex and Karl purely because teenagers often ignore the need for
protection for sex. Add this with the fact that I doubt there are supplies at hand on the
Island and you may see why Ben resorted to
extreme measures.
Teenagers think they are exempt from becoming pregnant for whatever reason and always take the stance of worrying about the consequences later and I feel Alex and Karl are no different.
