I know what you mean, before we went into the actual cinema there was an advertisement outside saying something to the effect of "An action hero we can all relate to". Well, he's not an action hero at all, but I do think we can relate to the little fella.
My girlfriend even said afterwards that half way though the movie she thought it was just going to be a 'silly movie'; 2 boys playing etc, and wasn't expecting the hearty final act. But it works well, if you enjoy that sorta stuff
There are
some parody scenes, but only to a point of a young boy imitating his hero (and we all did that at some point).
Certainly worth a look
