Regarding Ben's talent for keeping within the letter and not keeping within the spirit of his contracts, I have always thought of him more as a conniving lawyer or a devil in human form rather than an android.
However, this trait does seem to be born out of an honour-based system, in which breaking his word would seriously compromise Ben's leadership status. This may well be a reflection of society among the original "Hostiles", rather than inherited from DHARMA's values (which did not conspicuously prize openness and honesty).
