LOL, that made me laugh cos you have a point.
but i think the premise is that the island (or the islands control of fate etc) wont let it get to that stage..that is, it would do something to prevent the person from negating all probability of survival. So it could make the person fall and bang their head before they got a chance to drive off the cliff, for example..
I think the island can see 'possible paths', and so it can make events which prevent certain outcomes. If a person can logically survive a car crash, then it will 'cushion' the impact, but if like you say a person decides to kill themselves in a way which they cannot logically survive (i..e drowning), then the island will presumably intervene before the person gets the chance to execute their freewill in they way they planned. I guess the island can either see the future or can read/pre-meditate a persons subconcious will. I guess we know that the island can read a persons past (Eko v Smokey), so perhaps it can read a persons intentions and nullify paradoxes..?
I think it just about makes sense if this is the angle they are going for
