I thought this was a great little scene - not just for these great shots of hottie Naomi:
But because it showed us the hierachy of the freighties - in particular it revealed that Frank wanted to fly to the island first..but Naomi pulled rank and didn't let him, stating that his job was to "transport the science team back" - that's obviously Charlotte and Faraday (might also explain Charlotte's closeness to Faraday and vice versa).
Frank then asks Naomi "What the hell are you gonna do?", and she replies: "that's need to know..and you don't".
So basically this confirms that the freighties are a groups within a larger group - we have the captain/senior management (gault/Naomi), Communications officiers (Minkowski, Regina), Army types (Omar, Keamy), Science Team (Faraday, Charlotte), Aviators (Frank) and of course deckhands like Mike, or should I say kevin.
It's rather ironic that such clear lines between these groups seen in this scene between Frank and Naomi is not suggested in the seen between Minkowski and Michael, where Minkowski tells Mike that everyone's 'equal here'.
It reminds me of dharma - where the premise promosied equality, but in practice it never turely worked, what with 'workmen' and no "hazard pay" etc etc.
Anyway, I think this scene is important as it tells us that naomi piloted herself to the island with a secret mission (probably to do exactly what she ended up doing - disabling the jammer. But then..in retrospect it would appear that they already knew the co-ordinates to the island..unless they just couldn't 'see' it with the jammer on?). We also now know that Faraday and Lewis are there for a very specific purpose (I guess we already kinda knew that, but this confirms it). I don't think it was just to disable the Tempest either..I think there's more to it.
All of this just makes me want to hold on to Ben very tightly. we need him
