Rose, until very recently didn't want to leave the Island either and I'd have thought he position regarding Locke would have been a little less black and white. And before anyone says she (and Locke) could have chosen just to stay on the Island even if the rest of the survivors were rescued...I think we know, and even Rose knows deep down, that just wasn't really an option.

Bernard's comment was harsh man
Purely because of his personal desire to remain on the island, Locke has blown up a submarine in order to prevent Jack's leaving, knocked Sayid unconscious, implicated Sawyer in a crime for which he was guilty and provided Sayid with a knife to use against him. He's also killed a woman he could've rendered harmless by any number of other methods. And that's just the stuff I can remember.

Unless you count asking Bernard not to actively seek rescue - and she certainly didn't threaten him with violence if he failed to comply - Rose has never harmed another soul with a view to keeping herself on the island. And it's her life at stake, not her legs. Though it was the opposite of beneficial to her, she never tried to prevent the mass escape attempt. And now she's given up a potential opportunity to prolong her own life purely because she feels it'd be wrong to be seen to support murderous behaviour. That's astonishingly unselfish and principled. I think it's because she's essentially a much better and braver person than Locke is - sufficiently better than I can easily understand her not particularly sympathising with Locke's selfishness.

So personally, I don't think Bernard's comment was harsh at all. All he said was that Locke's a murderer. That's true.
