But surely Rose, of all people, would understand what had driven him to such actions. OK, she might not agree with his methods, but Rose knows how special the Island is, how all is not as it seems. Rose, until very recently didn't want to leave the Island either and I'd have thought he position regarding Locke would have been a little less black and white. And before anyone says she (and Locke) could have chosen just to stay on the Island even if the rest of the survivors were rescued...I think we know, and even Rose knows deep down, that just wasn't really an option.
Bernard's comment was harsh man
