Yeah, I think Locke does see a bit of himself in Ben..although at the same time he also see's authority and knowledge..and Locke doesn't like authority unless he's part of it.
I think both men are very similar, but also very different - it's almost as if Ben is who Locke would be if Locke had been on the island for the same amount of time. Which is I think partly what Ben was getting at during John's 3.13 'pharacy' tirade.
