I am undecided on whether both episodes' time travel is directly linked. By that I mean in Flashes we have Desmond re-live part of his life, whereas in The Constant he lived it simultaneously and in pieces- two different forms of time travel.

I think Desmond was 'susceptible' to experiencing a variable consciousness but then we had Minkowski and Brandon experience the same condition yet they were not exposed to intense electromagnetism like Desmond. Confusing.

So were Desmond's TWO time travel experiences related. However, obviously The Constant has progressed from Flashes and given us an update on the time travel issues in Lost even if both episodes have different strains of it.
