I cant recall an episode of Lost that has delivered so much in forty-two minutes. Faraday is awesome! Desmond is awesome! Sayid is awesome!

But, I didnt get all of it, hardly surprising mind you but could someone clear this up for me ...

Did Desmond go back and change a part of the past? So what we were seeing was an altered version of the past, which had effect on the present events? Hence why Daniel and Desmond didnt recognise one another when they first met on the Island but the effects of the altered past showed up, i.e Dan's journal?

But what I still dont get is was Penny consciously aware that Desmond would call her on Christmas Eve?

Anyway, 10/10.
As far as changing anything no I don't believe so. Things seemed to stay the same but this is also not to say that this is because Des didn't change anything. As Mrs Hawkins said fate corrects, and so anything monumental that Des changed would have been corrected by fate. Remember it would also appear that Dan suffers/suffered from the same thing and so it was probably him in another concious state that wrote that in his journal.

And I'd say so yes.
