Another question is why, after telling Danielle 'I don't trust him with anyone else but me?', would Jack so readily give Ben up into the hands of his arch enemey? Maybe he was a bit stunned after Hurley's outburst and that fact that half the camp left him to really think it through...or maybe he'd got bored of beating him bloody and was creating a space for a new victim?
I reckon that almost anything could be done to Locke and he'd still be willing to give ground in order to find out more about the island and his place on it, which could be why he allowd Ben to go with him. He probably trusts him even less now and I'd be surprised if he actually likes him, but he does believe him about the danger the island's in and possibly thinks that he's now in a position to finally get real answers from Ben, because he's got his own team and all Ben has got is a bloody face and rope burns on his hands. And Locke could also be thinking that at times like this it's better to keep your enemies closer, so that he's got more of an idea as to what Ben's doing and planning.
