Well people are arguing that he should interpreted the dream in the way that Boone may have been hurt in Locke's quest, all I've done is turned it on it's head. Like the island was showing him what was going to happen if Locke hadn't followed 'his' destiny. So the vision was say "this is what will happen if you do not complete your destiny"

Perhaps there are two, but when has the island ever 'gave' anything, without asking for something in return? Granted, perhaps it traded Boones life, but for what? The Swan? But that doesn't make sense - why not show Locke the pearl first, then the Swan - the events would have been the same but a lot quicker. But perhaps that's it, perhaps there are two opposing forces (like you say) one that wanted Locke to push the button for eternity, and one that wanted him to blow the darn thing up...
As with the beauty of lost, it would be impossible to see which 'force' is good and which is evil, even though we've probably seen both at work on numerous occasions!
By the way, I have a tendency to strongly argue my case even when I don't necessarily believe it! (like this topic) - However I do think there are 2 'entities' - perhaps someone/thing is playing Smokey - perhaps there are two 'users'

So Locke
knew he had to go into the plane...otherwise Boone would be hurt, right. I think one of the forces was possibly protecting Locke from death, hence why his legs failed.
I guess had Locke seen the Pearl, he wouldn't have followed the whole-button pushing thing. So it seems one force has beaten the other in getting Locke to go into the Swan. I'm guessing the force that created Locke's Teresa-Boone dream was the force that wanted Locke to go in the Pearl first...
Hmmm it may not even be good and evil,...it may just be two forces that have needs and objectives. But it still could be good and evil.
Hmmm, well the BS does seem to be rather fluctuated in terms of it's decisions which could mean a human being is controlling it, hence why the BS's decisions are often unexplainable and not always constant, if you know what I mean. The human being is having changes of heart and changes his/her plan in terms of what he/she wants the BS to accomplish.
