I think there is Other means of communication (pardon the pun). I think that we should perhaps also bear in mind that Walt can probably remote view and send messages through his minds eye and all that jazz..
However i think that Bea (Mrs Klugh) confirmed what happened when she said:
"There's been a development, Michael.."
Which i interpret to mean that it was indeed them who posed as Walt and contacted Mike via the computer..but that it they originally took Mike for a different reason - that being to help them understand Walt better. I imagine that they'd hit a brick wall with Walt after some initially impressive results - "We got more than we bargained for when we had Walt" (Ben) and they thought that perhaps Mike could help them unlock Walk further. My bet, is that they wanted Walt to help save Ben 
Anyway, the Others usually have 2 or 3 contingency plans running at the same time and so when they saw that Ben's 'hatch plan' was failing they had to change their other plan with Mike and send him back on a rescue mission. One thing about the Others is that theyre very adaptable..and thats what they did with regards to this change of plan, imo.

yes i suppose thats probably the case. Im not sure, its just they (picket) seemed surprised to see michael, and we all know how good the others are at acting all-knowing and thinking on their feet, but you are probably right.

Do you reckon that Pickett seemed suprised to see Mike? You mean when he was taking a leak and all that? Personally i think it was all a set up - they were waiting for him..classic
smoke and mirrors tactics. Even the way in which Pickett distracted him so that he wouldnt notice Zeke sneaking up behind him and all that..
You could be right in what you say
..but i just think that the whole thing was a clever set up by the Others to lure him out there..though
initially (at the time of watching) i did think that it was Walt.
